PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION (PBC)
SACRED MEDICINES PBC is a public benefit corporation (PBC), solidifying our organizing commitment to creating positive social impact. We are working in collaboration with traditional healers to develop whole plant medicines such as Ayahuasca Tea for humanity’s benefit. By taking the step to become a public benefit (hybrid) corporation, we commit (and are required) to meet higher standards of corporate purpose, accountability, and transparency.
We chose the PBC corporate model for Sacred Medicines so that we could prioritize mission while funding our programs with both philanthropy and impact investments.
The Western use of plant medicines has to honor the indigenous traditions and culture. Colonializaton, genocide, commercialization and medicalization all profited and took advantage of the gifts and knowledge of indigenous peoples and their practices with plant sacraments.
Since Ayahuasca has become increasingly popular in the West the growing demand has put stress on native plant habitats.
The demand for ayahuasca is increasing both in its native environment and in its exports. The increase worries environmentalists and indigenous people who are concerned about the sustainability of its popularity.
AFFORDABILITY & ACCESSIBILITY
Affordability & Accessibility
Sacred Medicines is committed to making Ayahuasca Tea available to as many people who desire this medicine as possible. Our strategy includes: clinical trial sites that are geographically diverse, group administration of the Tea, a tiered pricing program (final medicine cost), and group psychotherapy (psychotherapy costs).
